MAC & Marcel Wanders

For its f/w 2010 couture collection, MAC has collaborated with renowned architecture and interior designer, Marcel Wanders. The MAC couture line consists of higher-priced, more luxury themed designs and products. Such collections are usually  considered 'collectible' (ie: Hello Kitty w/ Swarovski embellishments; Monogram; Baroque Boudoir, etc). The packaging is very detailed and bit heavy. I am actually really looking forward to this collection because Wanders' work is truly unique.

I am expecting the products to be smooth, silky and incredibly moisturizing. The lipsticks tend to wear very nicely and the packaging definitely sets them apart and gives them a very unique feeling. The powder-compacts are usually expensive (up to $90+), BUT you can refills for the powders. I like how the compact design is simple and functional. The glosses are going to feel as luxurious as  the lipsticks. The perfume....ahhh....I certainly hope its a smelly worth smellin' like. MAC needs more fragrances for sure. The above products are what I expect people to buy more of. The brush, which looks like the traditional #187 might sell as well, but this like will be released alongside the holiday sets, so the chances people are actually going to buy individual brushes is unlikely. Sorry MAC...it's all about timing, boo.

Here's a brief synopsis on Marcel Wanders:

He is a native of the Netherlands and as a designer has become quite legendary because of his keen sense of detail and luxury. Below are photos examples of his work, both architecture and interior. He has been the architect behind some very important government embassies globally. He is, however, mainly an interior designer and having already made a huge name for himself, he finally partnered with corporations such as Target, Puma, Swarovski and more. These partnerships allowed for easy access to more affordable versions of Wanders' renowned work. For Target, he created chic home decor pieces, some of it resembling the IKEA style; very laid back, yet detailed, in which the piece speaks for itself.

Wanders is also one of the first designers to design for the Dutch 'conceptual design' company called Droog. This brand has stores in some of the high-end, metropolitan cities you can think of around the world, but still, it remains very selective and incredibly high-end. The pieces Wanders and Droog create are considered art, so it goes without saying that some of these pieces have been featured in world famous museums and galleries, and for my fellow St. Louisans, Wanders and Droog pieces are featured in the Saint Louis Art Museum. See pictures below.

Soo basically, this collaboration with MAC will prove beneficial to both companies. The only setback might be the price point, however, if one researches the history behind MAC, Marcel Wanders and his extensive history of design, then an appreciation will form.

Below are several examples of Wanders' wonderland-esque creations, including some architectural blueprints.

Above two photos are a shout out to my birthplace: Bahrain! This 'boutique' is called Villa Moda.

Above: example of what the JVC Building in Mexico will look like

Above two photos are pieces featured in the Saint Louis Art Museum. The Droog designers are known for their chest-of-drawers pieces which there are numerous of. The Wanders piece is small, and not a good enough example of his work. We're getting there, STL, slowly but surely.

So, will you be investing in this MAC/Marcel Wanders couture collection?

I sure will.
